Why should Cache return to the official Counter-Strike 2 map pool? Interesting facts about one of the most popular maps
The Counter-Strike competitive map pool has undergone dramatic changes in recent years. At tournaments and in matchmaking, we see completely new maps like Anubis and Ancient, having lost many iconic and beloved locations, for example, Cache, Train and Cobblestone. These maps have many fans who would like to see them in the game again. Since the closed beta of Counter-Strike 2, there have been many rumors about their return, but these remakes are still not ready. We have the most information about Cache, because this map is created by a mapmaker from the community and he often shares news about the development of a new version of the location. In this article we will talk about the creation of FMPONE, why you should wait for the map in CS2 and tell you about interesting facts related to the location.
History of the Cache
Cache was originally created by Volcano and appeared in Counter-Strike: Source in 2011. The location was later ported by FMPONE to CS:GO in December 2012, six months after the game’s release. The location was not very popular until it received another updated version in May 2013. Then the map acquired updated textures and was included in two operations in the game at once – “Bravo” and “Phoenix”. That same year, the map entered the competitive map pool and stayed there until 2019. After that, the map went for processing. Cache disappeared from the official list of maps in March 2019 and never returned to it. The updated version of the map will be released very soon – in October. But almost no one liked the remake and the map went to the back shelf. The legendary location was replaced by Vertigo, which is still not liked by most esports and regular players.
Cache version for CS2
The return of Cache to Counter-Strike 2 became known back during closed beta testing. FMPONE stated that the map is being developed from scratch: the author is not going to transfer any textures and models from CS:GO to CS2. And the inspiration for the remake will be the 2013 version of Cache. This news greatly pleased the fans, because the author understands that the latest version of the location was not to the community’s taste and all its errors will be corrected with the release of the remake. FMPONE shares screenshots of Cache for Counter-Strike 2 times every few months, which only further fuels the interest of players. He has already shown the updated mid and point A, work on the second site has not yet begun. FMPONE also shared sad news: he will not have time to complete the map in 2024, the remake will only be released in 2025. Of course, the location is the main contender to replace one of the old maps in the official map pool and it will definitely return to matchmaking. Also, the new Cache should appear in tournaments, because it is one of the most interesting tactical maps, it is also quite well balanced and has never experienced problems with the balance of the sides.
Why should she return to tournaments?
During his time in the tournament map pool, Cache was remembered not only for interesting matches, but also for legendary moments that will remain in the memory of all Counter-Strike fans. Oleksandr s1mple Kostyliev stood out the most, playing for Team Liquid at ESL One Cologne 2016. In the semi-finals, the team met with Fnatic, who was remembered not even for Liquid’s passage to the grand final, but for the incredible highlight from the Ukrainian young sniper. Oleksandr s1mple Kostyliev remained with AWP in a 1vs2 situation for defense at point B. The player decided to rely on luck and play in an unconventional way. Instead of the usual knockout of the point, he fell from the nine and gave out two crazy nousums on his opponents. The moment was even captured in the game itself; the author of the map, FMPONE, added graffiti with this moment, which Oleksandr s1mple Kostyliev also transferred to his body in the form of a tattoo. With the release of the updated Cache in 2019, the drawing disappeared from the map for a short time, but was soon returned to the game. This graffiti should definitely return to CS2, it is one of the most memorable moments in the history of Counter-Strike.
Nikola NiKo Kovac also scored a crazy highlight on Cache. Early in his career as a player with MOUZ, the young Bosnian established himself as one of the best shooters with Desert Eagle. Left in a 1vs5 situation in the economic round against Titan, Nikola NiKo Kovac managed to deal with all opponents and only took damage from a HE grenade. This is one of those moments thanks to which the whole world paid attention to the Bosnian and perhaps it became one of the keys to the success of his career.
Cache also managed to appear in the only B07 match in the history of CS:GO. This unusual format for the grand final was chosen at Acer Predator Masters Season 1. Hellraisers and MOUZ met in the match. To prevent the match from dragging on for the whole day, the organizers had to issue one advantage card to MOUZ, since the team advanced from the upper bracket. The first map after the automatic score of 1:0 was Cache, the choice of Hellraisers. In a fierce struggle, MOUZ, who was the favorite of the meeting, finally won. She also managed to win Overpass, which was the third map, but HellRaisers managed to make a historic comeback and take the last three maps. The players of that MOUZ roster will never forget the pain of defeat in the grand finals of Acer Predator Masters Season 1, and the Hellraisers will have only pleasant memories of this match. There have never been any more games of CS:GO in the B07 format, even with a one-map advantage, the fight lasted almost the entire day.
The return of Cache to Counter-Strike 2 is awaited by almost every fan of the game, and the map is truly one of the best in the history of the shooter. Unfortunately, the new version of the location will not be ready soon, but we continue to follow the news from FMPONE, which he shares quite often. It’s still difficult to say what the legendary map will be like in the updated game, but it’s already encouraging that the remake is being created from scratch and will be as close as possible to the beloved version of Cache, which has received a huge fan base.
