Who will play at the first CS2 major? Results of PGL Major Copenhagen 2024 RMR

Emotions of Virtus.pro after entering PGL Major Copenhagen 2024

On March 4, the last RMR at PGL Major Copenhagen 2024 ended. Half a month later, we recognized all the participants in the first CS2 major. It will feature 17 teams from Europe, two from the Asian region and five from America. Based on the list of participants, the upcoming championship will be one of the most competitive; it is almost impossible to predict the winner, as well as the teams that will not be able to show anything in Copenhagen. In this material we will discuss all the past RMR and teams that were able to get to PGL Major Copenhagen 2024.

European RMR

Traditionally, the European region turned out to be the most interesting and unpredictable in RMR. Several famous tags lost their coveted slot, for example, Ninjas in Pyjamas, fnatic, Astralis. This result has already caused dramatic reshuffles in two of the listed clubs. So far, only Freddie KRiMZ Johansson’s roster remains on its roster, but it’s not a fact that it will last for long.

As always, European RMR was a time of discovery and unexpected breakthroughs. The «dark horses» represented by KOI, SAW and ECSTATIC received a chance to perform at PGL Major Copenhagen 2024. Few people expected to see them at the major, but thanks to careful preparation and competent execution, they managed to surprise CS fans and their star rivals.

Teams from the CIS also pleased their fans. A record number of Russians (23 players) and as many as five teams will compete at PGL Major Copenhagen 2024. While there was little doubt about the success of Virtus.pro, Cloud9 and Team Spirit, AMKAL and 9 Pandas still had to prove that they were capable of overcoming RMR. And they did it quite beautifully. 9 Pandas faced big challenges, but this made their journey even more interesting. The team, with sweat and blood, made it out of the Last Chance Qualifier, where they stopped Astralis and GamerLegion.

AMKAL has become a truly sensational team. She assembled a group of less than stellar players shortly before the RMR qualifiers, where she experienced no problems and came out with a score of 3-0. The entire community believed that it would be impossible to repeat their success on LAN, but the team proved the opposite by defeating Ninjas in Pyjamas, Team Falcons and 9 Pandas.

G2 Esports, Natus Vincere, FaZe Clan, Eternal Fire, MOUZ, Team Vitality, Apeks, HEROIC and ENCE also qualified for PGL Major Copenhagen 2024 from Europe. This list is quite impressive, of which only Eternal Fire, Apeks and HEROIC do not claim to win the major; the rest of the teams are capable of taking high places in the playoffs or lifting the cup over their heads. Virtus.pro, Cloud9 and Team Spirit will compete with them in the fight for the trophy; there are quite high chances that the team from the CIS will become the champion of the first championship from Valve in CS2. All three are in excellent shape and will clearly play until the bitter end.

Asia RMR

The Asian RMR also maintained its trend. It still remains the most boring and predictable due to low competition in the region. The truly strongest representatives from Asia – TheMongolz and Lynn Vision have qualified for PGL Major Copenhagen 2024. These two teams consistently perform well, not only on the fading local scene, but also impose competition on international LANs.

The only surprise was Grayhound’s failure. But it was a consequence of the small number of slots on Asia RMR. Christopher dexter Nong has only recently returned to the team from his European adventures in MOUZ and fnatic. Despite the short preparation time, the team managed to take 3rd place. Grayhound is the strongest team in Australia, but it did not find a place at PGL Major Copenhagen 2024. This was certainly a failure for the club and it immediately announced the closure of the CS2 department. The players stayed together and are looking for an organization; they still have a chance to prove themselves, but under a different tag and at the next major.

One of the most famous Chinese tags, TYLOO, also failed. But this result was quite expected given the team’s results. Previously, she managed to be the best in the region and take part in all the majors, but her time has passed. This was also affected by the loss of key players YuLun Summer Cai and YuanZhang Attacker Sheng, who moved to other Chinese clubs. It is quite difficult to find talent in the Asian region and the club has not been able to find a suitable replacement for its stars, nor has it been possible to return to the major after PGL Major Stockholm 2021.

If we talk about the chances of teams from Asia RMR at PGL Major Copenhagen 2024, then they are practically non-existent. In the modern professional CS scene, trends are set by the European region, which even the American region, which is a level higher than the Asian one, cannot compete with. Most likely, TheMongolz and Lynn Vision will finish their performance in the group stage of the major, but they will still be able to surprise one or more teams and thereby spoil their path to the playoffs.

American RMR

The American RMR was surprised by the complete inability of the North American scene to show any competition, even at the local level. Four Brazilian teams FURIA, Imperial, Legacy and paiN Gaming reached the major, only Complexity stood out from the representatives of South America.

After the transition to CS2, the North American Counter-Strike scene gradually began to revive and clubs began to assemble strong rosters from representatives of the USA and Canada, as well as foreign players. But it seems that so far this has not led to any result, NA CS is still dead. The Major will miss Team Liquid’s star lineup with Casper cadiaN Meller and Russell Twistzz Van Dulken. The roster has not yet managed to find its best form, and players who have played in Europe for a long time cannot adapt to the team with the Americans. This failure means a lot for a club like Liquid, but it will not be fatal. The squad needs more time to play together.

NRG, made up of former Evil Geniuses players, also failed. The club bought the squad after EG left CS2, but these costs did not pay off. Even at American RMR the team failed to win at least one game. NRG lost to Imperial and MIBR, after which they deservedly dropped out of qualifying. Failure also befell one of the strongest Brazilian squads. MIBR will miss PGL Major Copenhagen 2024, losing to BOSS and Legacy. The organization clearly did not expect such a result and the roster is expected to undergo changes.

Brazilians always perform well at international tournaments and will definitely have the opportunity to shine at PGL Major Copenhagen 2024. FURIA has the best chance of this. Gabriel FalleN Toledo is motivated to win another major and will do everything possible to ensure his team finishes high in Copenhagen.

Separately, it is worth noting the passage of the Legacy team to PGL Major Copenhagen 2024. The legendary Marcelo coldzera David performs in it. The esportsman managed to return to the major after missing one – BLAST.tv Paris Major 2023. The fact that he did this together with his compatriots, and not as part of an international team, deserves special praise. At 29 years old, coldzera has proven that he is still capable of performing at a high level and once again participating in the main Counter-Strike championship.

It is quite difficult to expect a good result from Complexity. If in 2023 the roster managed to sometimes get into the playoffs of major tournaments, now it barely makes it out of the American RMR. Most likely, PGL Major Copenhagen 2024 will be the last tournament for this roster and changes will be expected after the Major.

The first CS2 major truly brought together the best teams from all over the world. We expect a lot of competition at PGL Major Copenhagen 2024 and a lot of unexpected results. In the playoffs of a major there may be teams that no one expects there. This makes watching the championship even more interesting. And we will already see how this will actually happen from March 17 to March 31. In Copenhagen, teams will compete for $1.25 million and the title of the first major champion in the updated version of the shooter.
