The first trophy for 3DMAX after returning to CS2. Skyesports Championship 2024 in India Results
India is a rather strange choice for a venue for a major Counter-Strike 2 championship. Skyesports Championship 2024, which received an impressive prize pool of 290 thousand dollars, faced huge problems at the start: players were unhappy with the practices and computers, the lights and internet went out in the hotel, and a deadly virus appeared in the country. However, by the start of the playoff stage, the organizers managed to cope with all the difficulties and we got the already familiar LAN, although not with the most famous participants. 3DMAX, ENCE, The Mongolz, Aurora and Eternal Fire made it to the decisive stage. There were several favorites on this list who could have won the tournament, but in the grand final, only The Mongolz ended up, and their opponent was unexpectedly 3DMAX. In this article, we will discuss the results of Skyesports Championship 2024, one of the most controversial tournaments in recent years.
Skyesports Championship 2024 Grand Final
Unfortunately, the main favorites of the tournament, The Mongolz and Eternal Fire, met in the semi-finals, which meant that only one team from the main contenders for victory would reach the grand final. After such a scenario, it was expected that it would be an easy trophy for the Mongols, but in the game, everything turned out completely differently. 3DMAX, being one of the main outsiders of the Skyesports Championship 2024, won with a score of 2:0 and without much of a fight. The club earned 120 thousand dollars, which was a good achievement for the organization that returned to Counter-Strike after a long absence from the professional scene. The Mongolz left with only 70 thousand dollars from the prize pool.
3DMAX finished their group in second place and it is worth considering that there was one less participant in it, BetBoom Team left the tournament before the first games due to poor conditions from the organizers. In the BO1 format, the French lost only to Eternal Fire, who finished first. 3DMAX managed to defeat AMKAL, DMS and Revenant, which is not a good result, so there was no particular faith in the team in the playoffs. The team started the playoffs from the quarterfinals, where they easily dealt with ENCE, and in the semifinals they were waiting for a meeting with Aurora, who finished the group without defeats. The meeting with the Russian team was difficult, but thanks to important clutches, the French managed to turn the tide of the match and make a comeback. In turn, The Mongolz also experienced great difficulties in the group, but only on one map. The team lost on Mirage to not the strongest opponents in the face of PARIVISION and BLEED, and they had victories over the local team True Rippers, ENCE and Aurora. In the playoffs, they were waiting for meetings with AMKAL and Eternal Fire, which ended with a dry score of 2:0. After such results, the community had great confidence in an easy outcome in the grand final, but 3DMAX turned out to be stronger.
The rest of the Skyesports Championship 2024 playoff participants
Of all the other participants in the Skyesports Championship 2024 playoffs, Aurora was the closest to the grand final. The team showed the highest level in the group, finishing it in first place with a score of 4-1. Having started the playoffs right from the semifinals, the team had a very high chance of advancing to the grand final and even led on the decisive map against 3DMAX with a score of 10:6, but thanks to several clutches, the future champions got to 11:11 and took the decisive rounds. Aurora’s path to the Skyesports Championship 2024 was still quite successful and the team is clearly progressing, it will be interesting to follow them at BetBoom Dacha Belgrade 2024 #2 and RMR at Perfect World Shanghai Major 2024.
Eternal Fire also deserved to be in the grand final, but the Turks were unlucky with the seeding. They, like Aurora, finished the group in first place and started the playoffs from the semi-finals, but they were joined by The Mongolz, who were determined to win the Skyesports Championship 2024. They failed to put up a fight against the Mongols, but a team of Eternal Fire’s caliber clearly expected a different result in the championship.
As for the teams that were eliminated in the quarter-finals, we didn’t see any particular prospects from them. The new ENCE roster is still not showing any progress and it’s unlikely that we’ll see the club at the top again. AMKAL, predictably, is experiencing problems after losing its main star and sniper Kaisar ICY Faiznurov. The player was replaced by Vladimir shady Karelin, who didn’t show a decent game in the Skyesports Championship 2024 and couldn’t match the former team member.
Like the Skyesports Championship 2024 itself, the playoffs and grand finals were unexpected. Most likely, 3DMAX’s championship was a fluke amid all the problems, stable tier-1 teams were unable to maintain focus due to the chaos at the tournament venue. This played to the advantage of the tier-2 team, which is not used to comfort and convenience, and the French team played most of the games online. We are unlikely to see another 3DMAX victory on LAN with the best teams in the world. However, there are big questions and concerns about The Mongolz, after the unexpected appearance of the Mongolian team on the tier-1 scene, they are experiencing problems against not the strongest teams. To draw final conclusions, we still need to see The Mongolz perform at major championships.
