StarLadder Cancels StarSeries S19 Due to Scheduling Conflict with CS2 Major

StarLadder has officially announced the cancellation of the 19th season of StarSeries, which was originally scheduled to take place from May 26 to June 1, 2025. The decision was made due to changes in the format of the BLAST.tv Austin Major 2025. The major expanded its participant pool from 24 to 32 teams, resulting in longer tournament dates that overlapped with the planned schedule of StarSeries S19.

Instead of the canceled tournament, StarLadder will focus on organizing the milestone 20th season of StarSeries, which will take place from September 13 to 21, 2025, in Budapest, Hungary. The event will feature 16 of the best teams, selected through regional qualifiers.

How the Qualifiers Will Work

Regional qualifiers will be held as follows:

  • North America: The qualifier matches will take place from July 15 to July 21, with 8 teams competing for 1 slot in the main tournament.
  • South America: The qualifier will run during the same period, with 8 teams also competing for a single slot.
  • Europe: The European qualifier will take place from August 12 to August 17. A total of 16 teams will compete, with 2 teams earning spots in the main tournament.

All qualifier matches will be played in a best-of-three (BO3) format. Invitations to the closed qualifiers will be distributed on July 4 based on the official Valve rankings.

What’s Next?

The year 2025 will be a crucial one for StarLadder as the single major tournament they plan to host — StarSeries S20 — must not only replace the canceled season but also meet the high expectations of CS2 fans. Budapest will serve as the venue for this large-scale event, bringing together teams from across the globe.

The cancellation of S19 is undoubtedly disappointing for fans, but StarLadder aims to make up for it by delivering an even more significant and high-quality experience in the milestone 20th season.
